James S. Taylor, MD – Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Institute
Dr. James Taylor is a Consultant Dermatologist and Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Dr. Taylor received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1966 and began his residency training at Cleveland Clinic the same year. Dr. Taylor founded and served as head of the Section of industrial Dermatology (1972-2009), created a fellowship in Contact and Environmental Dermatology and was the first Quality Improvement Officer for the Dermatology-Plastic Surgery Institute (2011-16). Additionally, he is Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of the
Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine. Dr. James Taylor has served six medical organizations in an official capacity as vice-president of both the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Dermatological Association and as past president of the American Contact Dermatitis Society, the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and Northern Ohio, and the Cleveland and Ohio Dermatological Societies. Dr. Taylor has been a major contributor to the fields of contact and occupational dermatitis through his continued active participation in the North American Contact Dermatitis Group (since 1976) and in developing Cleveland Clinic’s Patch Test Clinic. Current research interests also include quality and patient safety and clinical outcomes. He has been a consultant to multiple national organizations including the FDA, NIOSH, VA, CPSC, US Air Force, National Research Council, National Quality Forum and the National Academy of Medicine. In total, he has authored or co-authored 404 scientific articles, book chapters, abstracts and letters. Honors have included seven eponymous lecture presentations and honorary membership in 4 national and international dermatological organizations.
